Daily Post: Flangiprop

Daily Prompt: Invent a definition for the word “flangiprop,” then use the word in a post.

Flangiprop [flang-e-prop] – First introduced in the 1940′s by Hunter Propeller Parts, Inc. (HPPI), the Flangiprop was a revolutionary breakthrough in the aviation industry. This pipe collar reinforced the main shaft supporting the propeller on the end of the engine. This additional support system allowed for the production of larger and heavier propellers that could support aircraft of increase weight and speed. Without this part, it is believed the Allied air forces of WWII would have suffered many more casualties as it would have been more difficult to exit areas of high-flak in a quick and efficient manner. The increased size of planes additionally allowed for more bombs to be carried, reducing the need to put additional air crews in high risk situations.
